Two Nigerian Military Men Die Over Girlfriend In Uniform

Two military officers of Nigeria, Hilary and Sheu Abdullahi have died at a night club in Lagos, Nigeria.

For a country that has currently engaged many men of her armed forces in fighting the boko haram insurgency, in a demanding battle, it is sad that these men didn’t die trying to defend the territorial integrity of their nation, but lost their lives to a scuffle that degenerated over a girl.

According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, trouble started, last Sunday, at the popular night club on Pen Crescent, Apapa area of Lagos, when a corporal in the Nigerian Army arrived with his girlfriend, who was kitted in military attire. The bouncers stopped the lady from entering into the club and demanded to know if she was a soldier. This irked Hilary who questioned why his girlfriend was being interrogated in his presence.

In the course of the ensuing argument, Abdullahi, a naval officer, who had also come with his girlfriend, came out to intervene. Upon getting wind that the Hilary’s girl isn’t a military officer, he turned to Hilary and pointed out that it was wrong for his girlfriend to be so donned. In Nigeria, reports have shown that civilians who wear a military camouflage are forbidden to do so by the military. Subsequently, he slapped the girl who he claimed had insulted him. In response, Hilary brought out a knife and stabbed Abdullahi, the naval officer, who died on the spot.

When the now deceased officer’s colleagues got hint of the situation, upon arrival, they descended on Hilary and pummeled him till he died, according to those who witnessed the act. One of the eyewitnesses put a call to policemen at the Apapa Police Division, who arrived to prevent further deaths.

Confirming the incidence, the Deputy Police Relations Officer, ASP Lelma Kolle said, “Yes, the incident happened. Actually, two people died. We received a distress call from someone that there was a situation at the club and we instantly rushed to the scene. We were able to bring the situation under control and prevent further loss of lives. It was just unfortunate that by the time we got there, the two officers had died. But the police arrested two military officers in connection with the incident.”

ASP Lelma Kolle, added that two persons were arrested at the scene of the incidence, while the case had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos. The corpses have also been deposited in the morgue.
