Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have urged President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the party to reinstate Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the national secretary of the party.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a meeting held at Oyinlola’s residence in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State between Oyinlola and his supporters across Osun State.
The communique, which was made available to journalists in Osogbo on Monday, was signed by the Chairman, Secretary and Convener of the meeting, Mr. Olajide Adeniji, Mr. Abayomi Adegoke and Mr. Bunmi Jenyo respectively.
They called on Jonathan and other PDP leaders to reinstate the estranged scribe as ordered by the Court of Appeal.
Other leaders who were present at the meeting included a former governorship aspirant of the PDP, Mr. OluwoleOke; PDP Central Senatorial District Chairman, Mr. KayodeOduoye; a former Director General, News Agency of Nigeria, Chief Akin Osuntokun.
The communique read, “The meeting affirmed that the immediate past Executive of Osun state, Prince OlagunsoyeOyinlola is a worthy, dependable, reliable and trusted leader of the party in the state. We passed a vote of confidence onOyinlola as a bridge-builder and rallying point for the members of the PDP across the state.
“The meeting also affirmed that Oyinlola remains a cornerstone of the PDP in Osun and a strong pillar of the party at the national level and thereby debunked the speculations of his (Oyinlola) defection to the All Progressive Congress either in principle or otherwise. The meeting warned campaigners and speculators of such rumour of calumny to desist henceforth.
“Oyinlola is a rallying point to record victory for the PDP during the forthcoming governorship election slated for August 9, 2014 and he will assist the national leadership of the party to reposition the party for victory ahead of 2015 general election.”
Oyinlola was said to have declared that he would not take any decision in a hurry. He promised to consider the interest of his supporters, his party, the people of the state as well as Nigeria at large before arriving at any decision.
It will be recalled that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had about two weeks ago said that the third civilian governor of the state who he referred to as Prince was now with him.
Also, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Oyegun, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the party visited Oyinlola at his Okuku residence asking him to join the APC. This happened immediately after the APC lost the governorship election in Ekiti State to the PDP.
