Shoprite Opens 10th Outlet in Ibadan

Shoprite has opened another outlet in Nigeria, at Ibadan, the tenth and biggest so far.  Shoprite is one of the leading retailers across Africa and is apparently becoming the brand of choice for many consumers across the African continent.
Mr. Fatai Oshungboye, Ibadan branch manager, described the newly opened outlet in the Oyo State capital as the largest in West Africa.  He spoke shortly after the inauguration of the complex on Ring Road.
The Ibadan branch has 400 staff, including 150 support personnel.

Oshungboye listed the Shoprite advantages as the provision of employment to Nigerians, as well as the opportunity to buy goods and services at cheaper prices.
At Shoprite, he said, “we are not bothered if you are Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa; as long as you are qualified and Nigerian, we believe you can work with us.”
He also said Shoprite would open over 200 outlets across the country in the next five years, starting with five more outlets before the end of the year, possibly in Ota, Apapa, Festac and some other parts of the South-South Zone of Nigeria.
“By bringing Shoprite outlets nearer to the people, we hope they will visit less of open markets where the quality of goods and services is not guaranteed,” the branch manager said.
