Religious Leaders Oppose Niger’s Bill to Regulate Preaching

Religious leaders in Niger state  Monday vehemently opposed a bill sponsored by the executive am of the government to provide for the regulation of religious preaching and establishment of places of worship and for connected purposes for both faiths.
The leaders who matched to the House of Assembly for the hearing of the bill said the law was against the constitution which gives people the right to expression, freedom of association and religion and also not in line with the Christian and Islamic faith.
According to Reverend Echioda Mathias who spoke for CAN, the proposed Bill is not a child of necessity, adding that it was a ploy to contravene constitutional provision of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by curtailing the freedom of worship of Christians in the state.
